Senior Backend Engineer

📋 Description

• Design, build, and operate backend services in Kotlin or Java, and own them in production.
• Turn ambiguous underwriting problems into simple, reliable software. Decide what to build, not just
• Shape architectural decisions: APIs, domain models, persistence, reliability, observability, and
• Build depth in the underwriting domain and challenge requirements when needed.
• Design and build agent-assisted workflows with guidance on where humans stay in control.
• Use AI coding tools (e.g., Claude) as a core part of how you work while ensuring quality, security

🎯 Requirements

• Strong professional experience building and running backend systems in Kotlin, Java, or another JVM
• Judgement in architecture and system design; ability to balance immediate needs with long-term
• Proven track record shipping software that solves real customer/business problems.
• Self-starting, proactive problem finder who doesn't wait for tickets.
• Clear communication across underwriters, executives, and engineers.
• Comfort with problems without clear precedents and with responsible use of AI coding tools.
