Principal Software Engineer - Search Algorithms - Elasticsearch

📋 Description

• Lead initiatives on Elasticsearch vector database for speed and relevance
• Build new vector search features and fix bugs; may invent data structures
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities
• Be the expert on vector similarity in Elasticsearch for search relevance
• Work with community members on issues/PRs, sometimes triaging
• Write idiomatic modern Java (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java)

🎯 Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity and vector databases; used HNSW, IVF, or similar on scale
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of data structures, concurrency, lambdas
• Autonomous and able to drive projects from design to delivery
• Comfortable collaborating asynchronously over the internet
• Experience with data storage tech like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra
• Excellent verbal and written communication
