Principal Software Engineer - Search Algorithms - Elasticsearch

📋 Description

• Lead vector similarity search initiatives in Elasticsearch.
• Design and implement new vector search features and improve existing ones.
• Collaborate with a global team to advance vector search capabilities.
• Develop and optimize algorithms and data structures for vector search.
• Participate in community issues and PRs across time zones.
• Contribute idiomatic Java code for Elasticsearch’s core stack.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity, vector databases, and algorithms (HNSW, IVF, etc.).
• Strong Java skills and knowledge of concurrency and standard library.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive projects end-to-end.
• Collaborative mindset with remote/asynchronous teamwork experience.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across functions.
